GWE is not like other volunteer placement organisations. At GWE, we specialise in developing internships that provide meaningful work experience and research opportunities to students
We work with universities and organisations to create volunteer placements that truly meet the needs of students looking to complete placement years, conduct research projects or gain meaningful work experience.
Volunteer placements are designed to meet the specific requirements of each academic course or university.
All placements are personally vetted by the GWE team before becoming approved projects.
We will only work with reputable, ethical organisations so you can be sure that you are not unknowingly supporting the canned hunting industry or illegal trade.
Our Director, Paula Hallam, spent twenty years working in Human Resources in the private and public sectors. During this time, she became passionate about finding ways to help students gain meaningful work experience either during their studies or after graduation to optimise their chances of finding work in their preferred fields. She designed a graduate development programme at the Department for International Development.
In 2014, Paula left behind her career, bought a rucksack and fulfilled a lifelong dream to travel around Africa and Asia. During this time, she volunteered at a number of animal sanctuaries and rescue centres in both Asia and Africa. To her disappointment, students of animal biology, zoology, animal welfare and behaviour, nature conservation, tourism, veterinary science and similar were undertaking the same volunteer placements as her. She pledged then to establish a specialist volunteer placement organisation catering specifically for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
